A Cherished 1973 Westfalia

This exceptional 1973 Volkswagen Westfalia camper, finished in classic Pastel White, was created as a genuine joint project with G’Day Kombis. Its extensive restoration was completed in 2015, and it remains every bit as impressive as the day it was finished—if not better. all photos on file of the complete tear down of what was a very original and solid UK delivered RHD Westfalia continental. 

Since its restoration, the Westfalia has enjoyed a wonderfully gentle life. Its principal outing has been the owner’s annual two-week pilgrimage to France, after which it has always returned home to be safely stored in a private garage.

This careful pattern of use and storage goes a long way towards explaining its exceptional condition today. It has been enjoyed exactly as a Volkswagen camper should be, while remaining protected, properly maintained and continually improved throughout the rest of each year.

Bare-Metal Restoration

The restoration began with the body being completely stripped back to bare metal before receiving extensive welding and bodywork, followed by a full professional respray in Pastel White.

This was far more than a cosmetic restoration. Considerable attention was also given to its mechanical specification, resulting in a camper that is genuinely enjoyable to drive.

The underside has received a protective Waxoyl treatment, while extensive soundproofing was installed within the body panels to create a quieter and more refined travelling experience.

Power comes from an upgraded and rebuilt 1911cc engine with twin carburettors. It is paired with a Cogbox-rebuilt gearbox featuring a Freeway Flyer-specification top gear, making the van particularly well suited to longer journeys and modern road speeds.
